Good Guys - Costume Descriptions
from The Hobbit book
Tolkien's Middle-earth is peopled by many distinct races all with their
own styles. Minimal costume description is provided... but there are
lots of jewels around.

- A long grey cloak
- A tall pointed blue Wizard hat
- An old man with a silver scarf over which a white beard hangs down
below his waist, long bushy eyebrows
- Wears immense black boots
- Carries a staff
- Pipe
General Elf Description
- The Wood-elves live in the forest.
- Some live in caves that were light & airy
- Some live in trees
- Some live in huts on the ground.
- Favorites:
- Colors: Greens & browns
- Beech trees
- Elves are very fond of wine from the south, and especially from
Dorwinion in the east.
- Wear:
- Flowers twined in their hair
- Green & white gems on their collars & belts
- Carry bows & spears
- Golden hair
- Carries a staff of carved oak
- Green Banners
- The Elven king changes his crowns with the season
- Crown of leaves for Summer
- Crown of berries & red leaves for Autumn
- Crown of woodland flowers for Spring
- Beorn is a tall man with bare arms & legs.
- His hair is black and he has a thick beard
- He likes leaning on a large axe.
- Wears a sleeveless brown wool tunic with fringe at hem
“Bilbo could have trotted through his legs without ducking” to miss the
fringe on the tunic hem.
 Bard
- descendant of Lord Girion of Dale
- Bard has dark hair.
- Blue banners
- Carries yew bow
- Among Bard's arrows is one "black arrow". (*It's possible
the entire arrow is black, or possibly just the fletching... no detail.)
- The Emeralds of Girion are returned to him.
- The dwarf, Dain, made the Lord of the Eagles a small golden crown.
- The other Eagles received gold
collars as their reward.
