10th Annual Exhibition The Art of Motion Picture Costume Design at FIDM

Once again we (those of us living in Los Angeles) get a chance to see costumes from some of the most amazing films of the year. This marks the 10th year that the costumes have been displayed by the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.  They have filled the three rooms of their 10,000 square foot  Museum Galleries on the Park.

Costumes from 20 movies from 2001 will be on display as well as a retrospective of the last decade of displays. This is a not to be missed event.

The Exhibition:

Costumes from 2001 that are featured include the following Academy Award nominated films:

bulletThe Affair of the Necklace
bulletGosford Park
bulletHarry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
bulletLord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
bulletMoulin Rouge

Another 15 films of 2001 are also on display, including...

Costumes from 20 different movies:  Ali, The Man Who Wasn't There, Planet of the Apes, Zoolander, Spy Kids, Ocean's Eleven, Original Sin, The Princess Diaries, Kate and Leopold, The Royal Tannenbaums, Pearl Harbor, Dark Blue World, A Knight's Tale, Legally Blonde, and The Shipping News. 

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the exhibit additional costumes from their perminate collection will be displayed:  Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Age of Innocence, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Restoration, The English Patient, Titanic, Shakespeare in Love, Topsy-Turvy, and Gladiator.

bulletMonday February 18th - Friday, May 3rd, 2002
bullet Monday - Saturday, 10:00am to 4:00 pm
bulletGroup docent tour may be arranged.
bulletDocents are available at most hours.

bulletParking under the building is $6,   Saturdays, $3.
bulletThe only way to get into the lot is on 9th street going east from the 110 freeway.  (Just passed Flower and Hope, on the right side.)

 

bulletNote: the garment district is right near by.  After you see the costumes, go on over to Maple and 9th and hit the fabric shops while details are fresh in your memory.
bulletPark on Maple just north of 9th... go up the ramp.
