Subject: Vintage Clothing & Textile Auction Announcement

Charles A. Whitaker and I (Karen Augusta) are having our 2nd vintage
clothing and textile auction. Below is the copy I just wrote and posted at
www.whitakerauction.com.   Please forward to any lists or friends you think
may be interested. Thanks!

We are pleased to offer to our customers an exciting grouping of very fine
vintage clothing, antique fabrics and textiles, French fashion prints,
costume jewelery, mens & womens accesories and Louis Vuitton luggage.
These items come from several important estates and all lots are new to the
market. This sale will be held October 24th at our auction gallery at the
New Hope Fire Station, [Philadelphia, PA] beginning at noon. Preview will be held October 23rd from 4-6PM as well as on the day of sale from 9AM-12 Noon.

The heirs of the late Peggy Cone, well-known New York City cabaret singer,
have consigned her massive vintage clothing, accessory and costume jewelry
collection to our auction house for absolute sale. Peggy was a trendsetter
and fixture at all the northeast vintage shows over the past two decades,
purchasing only the best quality and flashiest garments to wear. If you
love the dramatic and glitzy fashions of the 1930s through the 1950s, you won't
want to miss the opportunity to acquire treasures from this incredible
collection. Bias cut evening wear, sequined boleros, beaded skirts and
sweaters, strapless evening gowns, suits, jackets, feather wraps and boas,
printed rayon dresses, furs, lingerie, hundreds of shoes, hats, purses and
gloves are all to be offered at this unreserved sale. All items from this
wardrobe are in excellent condition!

A 25 year private collection of 18th through early 20th century Continental
and American fabrics, textiles and fashion drawings will also be sold.
some highlights of this remarkable compilation include: bolts of c. 1918 French
silk, 19th c. wool plaid and paisley shawls, yardage of 18th c. indigo linen
 in checks & plaids, red, blue & brown 19th c. ticking, 19th c. bandanas
(including 1830s Provence samples), 1890s printed cotton yardage, 18th c.
silk jacquard samples from a Lyon manufacturer's archives, yardage of
beautiful brocades, floral, plaids & textured silk samples from French
sample books, Art Nouveau through 1930s wallpaper samples, c. 1880 French
jacquard table & piano covers, lots of pillow making materials and hundreds
of French fashion drawings dating from 1930 through the 1950s. These are
rare finds for the fashion design, home furnishings/interior design or
textile documentary market, and for all who love high quality antique
textiles.

The late Thomas Tinsley of Richmond, Virginia owned television and radio
stations throughout the South. A friend of the Duke of Windsor, he had his
clothing custom tailored in England. This collection includes items made
from 1950 through the 1970s - impeccably made suits, colored raw silk pants,
the finest silk knit Swiss underwear, lounging pajamas, hats, silk neck ties
and handmade shoes (Bally, etc). Also offered is the magnificent twelve
piece collection of Vuitton luggage that Mr. Tinsley used to transport his
beautiful garments when traveling. The estate of Mr. Tinsley has consigned
these items in their entirety with no reserve.

This is a partial listing of pieces that will be offered at our Autumn
Vintage Sale. Selected items from additional estates will also be cataloged
on these pages. The photo gallery and a complete catalog listing of the lots
offered for sale will be posted on this site in the near future. Please
check back before Oct. 1st. Email Charles Whitaker with any questions
about  this sale or consignor inquiries.

Karen Augusta, textile & costume appraiser and owner of Antique Lace &
Fashion (www.antique-fashion.com), is consultant for this auction.

Absolute auction. No reserves or minimum bids. Absentee bids and phone
bids  accepted. Catered Sale.
